Cape
        Weekend 03/12/04 |

The
clay outcropping continues to get smaller |

And
is approaching the fragile stage |

There
were huge sea scallops on the beach. Many still had their muscles attached. |

| For those who have been following the process of erosion you will find that the post is now on the beach. |
A
lobster trap in the dunes |

Dogs
        meet on the beach |

A
wide expanse of barren beach north of Newcombe Hollow |

The
path from the parking lot is gone |

Biscuit
checks out the clay outcropping south of Newcombe |

Another
        fragile area |

How
        long can this last? |

Rope
washes up in the surf |

| This runner was braving 40 degree weather with a stiff wind. You can't tell but he had some intact sea scallops that had washed up on the beach. |
Biscuit
sampled some crab claws. The low area in the background is where we headed
        inland. |

This
pond is hidden in the dunes and is nicknamed "heart pond" because
of the shape. You can't tell from this picture but from some angles it
looks just like a valentine. |

Walking
along the rim of some dunes - looking back toward where we left the beach. |

The
next day the clay dome was splitting. |

I'll
be surprized if it lasted the day. |

This
was a barely worn path two months ago but the closing of the Newcombe
Hollow stairs has sent beachgoers off looking for areas to access the
        beach. |

A
        path into solitude |

| The following link shows pictures of a more grim side of nature. It involves a seal that has fallen prey to an unidentified predator. It is not a pretty site so you may wish to skip it. Link |
