Ervin Estey sent five children through the North Attleboro School System. During that time he was an avid supporter of athletics. When his granchildren began attending the high school he made time to follow not only their activities, but those of many others as well. He was a constant fixture at athletic contests, musical programs and anything else going on. He soon came to be known to all as "Grampa Estey". He was considered friendly, outgoing, encouraging and especially helpful. His passing was felt deeply by everyone who knew him. At the suggestion of the Girls Track Organization a memorial area was created at the south side of the track. Landscaping was done, then picnic tables and benches were added to make it a pleasant area to congregate. Plantings and benches continue to be added due to the generosity of his countless friends throughout the area. It is a fitting tribute as many can continue to enjoy this spot so close to a place he loved to be.
