Hockomock Invitational - Girls
10/29/06
Cloudy - Extreme Wind
Division 1
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday the rain, mixed with 60 MPH winds postponed this meet. The change affected a few teams. Some stayed home due to conflicts and others held a few runners back. But those that came got a chance to tune up on next week's State Coaches Invitational course.
The course seems much more prepared than a year ago, the only problem areas being a few puddles in the woods. The only other drawback was a blustery wind, sometimes nearing 50 MPH. While helping the course dry out, a few runners commented to me that they felt like they were running backwards at times.
The division 1 race came down to a great battle between Whitman-Hanson and Franklin. The team in black came out with a narrow 31-36 victory. W-H did their damage up front placing 2-3-5. Lindsey Booth was Franklin's top runner, placing 4 th in 20:42. Siobhan Duffy continued her steady recovery for Franklin placing 5th, beating W-H's 5 th by 7 seconds. One big difference in the meet was the outstanding W-H performance by freshman Caitlin Ryan who placed 8 th in 20:59.
Third place went to Mansfield, led by Jessica Morse (10 th -21:28). Despite having the overall champion (Chrissy Meagher-20:09.83) Fontbonne placed 4 th . North Attleboro grabbed 5 th with 159 points. Marrah Fry led the Rocketeers placing 25 th in 23:11. Big Red's other medal winner was newcomer Stephanie Moses (28 th -23:19).
Other bright spots for North Attleboro included Shannon Swanson (44th-24:12), finishing her first race since developing mono in the early season and Djerica Lamousnery (47th-24:16) who improved nearly three minutes over her '05 PR of 27:05).
Other team leaders for the Hock were:
Stoughton – 14 th -Alicia Kelly-freshman-22:02
King Philip – 29 th – Sara Hedtler – 23:33
Sharon – 52 nd – Alicia Fazazzo – freshman – 26:39
