Hockomock League - 5/22/2009 to 5/23/2009 Outdoor Track & Field Championship Franklin HS, Franklin, MA Two Mile Run (G-B) Jenna Davidner will have a cake-walk and won't attempt a meet record. Megan Ross and Cassandra Olson will roll sub-12 in a restaging of their classic duel at GNBV. There should be a great battle for the last three spots with Lianne Swanson the most seasoned performer of the group. On paper it looks like I shouldn't have gone beyond #7 when considering placements but I have too much respect for all of those other runners. They've all shown the capability of a sub-12:10 race which is about where 6th should fall. 1 Davidner, Jenna 10 Oliver Ames 11:16.07 2 Ross, Megan 09 Franklin 12:05.30 3 Olson, Cassandra 10 Mansfield 12:05.87 4 Kline, Rachel 09 Oliver Ames 12:13.73 5 Swanson, Lianne 12 Franklin 12:15.80 6 Scuzzarella, Janey 12 Franklin 12:17.90 7 Kelly, Alicia 10 Stoughton 12:17.90 8 Schepis, Katelyn 11 Mansfield 12:28.00 9 Morse, Jess 11 Mansfield 12:33.00 10 Grueter, Brittany 11 Foxborough 12:39.00 11 Loftus, Sarah 12 Oliver Ames 12:45.00 I'm giving Erwin the edge over May only because I've seen Andrew at his best. I don't think he and Frank will be all alone. Greg Payne re-established himself as a threat during the Mansfield meet. And Shayne Collins was right on his heels. The only reason I didn't cut the list after Brad Willox is because if even one runner has an off day, #'s7,8&9 will have a chance to battle for the last point. 1 May, Frank 12 Franklin 9:57.00 2 Erwin, Andrew 12 Mansfield 9:58.20 3 McGowan, Patrick 10 Mansfield 10:06.89 4 Payne, Greg 12 North Attleborou 10:07.00 5 Collins, Shayne 09 Mansfield 10:10.30 6 Willox, Brad 12 North Attleborou 10:14.40 7 Vossoughi, Navid 12 Canton 10:34.00 8 Tagen, Kyle 09 Oliver Ames 10:38.24 9 Morris, Mike 10 Stoughton 10:39.00 300M Hurdles (G-B) In this, the last year of the 300MH Colleen Davis becomes the final athlete to make a run at my daughter's meet record of 45.5. North should grab two good spots behind her with Christy Deininger and vastly improved Amanda Cangiano. Now, if even one person in the seeded heat falters the winner of the second heat will place. That makes for an interesting race between the two Sara's and Justine. 1 Davis, Colleen 12 Mansfield 45.60 2 Deininger, Kristy 10 North Attleborou 49.10 3 Lobrano, Adrienne 10 Stoughton 49.60 4 Cangiano, Amanda 10 North Attleborou 50.10 5 McDonagh, Kristen 09 Mansfield 50.50 6 DaCosta, Gabrielle 10 Oliver Ames 50.50 7 Soloman, Sarah 09 Franklin 51.10 8 Krasney, Sarah 12 North Attleborou 51.30 9 Quattrucci, Justine 10 Stoughton 51.30 Matt Callanan owns the event. The battle for second between Ryan Doherty and Brian Toney will be notable. Vlad Francois looks good for 4th. There's a good chance that Chris Ping or Kerry Sabanty can score out of the unseeded section - it almost always happens. 1 Callanan, Matt 12 Mansfield 39.20 2 Doherty, Ryan 11 North Attleborou 41.40 3 Toney, Brian 12 King Philip 41.50 4 Francois, Vladimir 10 North Attleborou 42.20 5 Myers, Dillon 10 Foxborough 43.60 6 Bates, Christian 10 Canton 43.90 7 Peng, Chris 11 Sharon 43.90 8 Sabanty, Kerry 11 Stoughton 44.10 400M Run (G-B) Ah, what could have been. Is there any chance that Kristen McLoughlin, Emily Broyles, Colleen Davis, Kathleen Ryan, Michelle Sirois, Michelle Jennsen, Katy Flannery, Alyse Rocco, Amanda Parker, Shannon Cunningham and Katy Jenkins would show up on a Sunday for a grudge race. Every one of them is an already or potential sub-60 runner! No lanes, no officials , no watch - just pure intense competition - winner take all. I'm on record that I'd pay $20.00 for a ticket for that one race. But I digress. Michelle will win after a valient effort by Michelle! Now you figure out what I meant. A solid three-man race. I've watched both Brian Foley and Kyle Kilduff run. Weather permitting they will both go faster. I don't remember Brad Mattocks race but at 51.6 he should be right with them. Numbers 7-12 might be the best unseeded race of the day. Everyone there knows they have a chance to win the heat, and winning the heat could mean placing! But the lack of competition will probably mellow out her time a little. Its a very young group chasing her - all attempting to be heralded as the heir-apparent. Don't write off Julie Binney's chance of getting second place. She and Mary Cole run like veterans in big meets. But then there's the unpredictability of youth with Aubree Piepmeier and Lindsey Walsh. Sometimes the young colts suddenly find their speed. 1 Rocco, Alyse 12 Canton 5:04.02 2 Walsh, Lindsey 09 Stoughton 5:28.40 3 Piepmeier, Aubree 10 Franklin 5:29.10 4 Cole, Mary 10 Franklin 5:33.10 5 Kirsch, Ali 10 Sharon 5:37.70 6 Binney, Julie 11 Oliver Ames 5:38.00 7 Burns, Katie 12 King Philip 5:42.00 8 Dominesey, Elaina 12 Mansfield 5:44.70 It would take a person with no sense of history to pick against Mike Moverman. But he isn't invincible. Patrick Grimes and Mike Bolea are in the best position to prove he isn't. If meet officials decide to squeeze 12 into the seeded heat (and I hope they do) there are endless possibilities for places 4-12. Actually no! There are 363,880 possiblilities for the arrangemeent of #'s 4-12. So here's the mathematical problem. If we are only concerned about the possibilities for positions 4, 5 and 6 - how many possibilities are there with 9 runners invested. For the sake of this example, the top three places go to the top three seeds. Answers are due before race time. 1 Grimes, Patrick 11 Mansfield 4:34.00 2 Moverman, Mike 11 Oliver Ames 4:34.00 3 Bolea, Mike 12 Mansfield 4:35.20 4 Connolly, Dave 11 King Philip 4:42.10 5 Hernon, Matt 10 Mansfield 4:42.69 6 Harris, Ben 12 Foxborough 4:43.00 7 Dacey, John 11 Franklin 4:43.00 8 Curreri, Joe 11 Oliver Ames 4:43.34 9 Beland, Jason 10 Foxborough 4:44.00 10 Howards, Casey 12 Sharon 4:45.00 11 Ha, Andrew 12 Canton 4:45.10 12 Henry, Matt 09 Franklin 4:45.30 100M Dash semis (G-B) Total Runners = 26 Again, this is just a semi. There is a huge difference between the four possible scenarios. This could either be: Over 24 athletes: Four heats with winners and next two best times Four heats with all finalists determined by times 24 or fewer athletes: Three heats with winners and next best three times Three heats with all finalists determined by time (unlikely) If FAT was not available the problems would be complex. Thank goodness for FAT. It's most probable that no one with seed slower than 11.4 can make finals, but the difference listed is all subject to the consistency of hand timing. In other words, until there is an FAT system involved we really don't know what athletes can run. 1 Neville, Stephan 12 Foxborough 10.90 2 Jeudy, Joe 12 Stoughton 10.90 3 Simpson, Powell 12 Mansfield 11.00 4 Dennis, Dominique 11 Foxborough 11.20 5 Ward, Kevin 12 Canton 11.30 6 Shorey, Brady 09 North Attleborou 11.30 7 Bruha, Matt 11 Oliver Ames 11.40 8 Johnson, Matt 11 Mansfield 11.40 9 Seronick, Dave 12 Stoughton 11.50 10 Harris, Ken 10 Mansfield 11.50 11 Guyton, Jordan 10 Canton 11.50 12 Harris, Joshua 10 North Attleborou 11.60 110M Hurdles (Boys-semis) I hate to use the term laugher, but when someone like Matt Callanan is in the race it would be ludicrous to pick another winner. I think the top-4 play out as listed but the last two spots in the finals are anyone's guess between Ryan Jones, Matt Wing and Dan McKim. It is doubtful that two studs would crash and burn and that is the only way anyone not on this list could make into into the top 6. Bethany Frazier pulled off a big race in the indoor finals so no one can take her lightly. The best race is for 5 and 6 with Rachel Wasserman, Chelsea Ryan, Lauren Anderson and Anastasia Lutkevich. Anastacia showed great finishing speed in the dual meet against NA. 1 Ryan, Kathleen 11 Franklin 2:17.80 2 Parker, Amanda 12 North Attleborou 2:22.30 3 O'Koren, Katie 11 Franklin 2:23.90 4 Frazier, Bethany 11 Oliver Ames 2:24.00 5 Wasserman, Rachel 11 Sharon 2:27.30 6 Ryan, Chelsea 11 North Attleborou 2:29.70 7 Anderson, Lauren 11 Mansfield 2:29.90 8 Lutkevich, Anastasia 10 Mansfield 2:30.10 Nick Wade has no competition. But if his usual modus operendi is in force he will try to throw down a big time anyway. Then it is mano et mano competition for the next five spots. It depends on what your goals are and as a result who you run. Is a team loading one event or trying to stay strong over multiple relays? Is their best squad going to the line? Here's my guesses. 4 X 800M (G-B) Franklin will want to win this event. Oliver Ames has the second best team on paper but can definitely go under 10:00. They won't see much sense in trying to field a good 4X4. I don't see Alyse here since Canton doesn't have enough depth to go much faster. That opens the door for a Stoughton 3rd at better than their seed. Mansfield and King Philip both can put up some good times so NA will have to bear down if they want to place 4th. 1 Franklin 'A' 9:45.50 2 Oliver Ames 'A' 10:09.80 3 Canton 'A' 10:14.90 4 Stoughton 'A' 10:24.64 5 North Attleborough 'A' 10:30.30 6 Mansfield 'A' 10:41.95 7 King Philip 'A' 10:46.60 It is between Franklin and Mansfield for first while OA has a sure third place. The rest is just jumble. 1 Franklin 'A' 8:14.12 2 Oliver Ames 'A' 8:18.90 3 Mansfield 'A' 8:20.61 4 Sharon 'A' 8:30.00 5 Foxborough 'A' 8:32.00 6 Canton 'A' 8:43.00 7 North Attleborough 'A' 8:46.00 8 Stoughton 'A' 9:00.00 9 King Philip 'A' 10:07.00 4 X 100M (G-B) Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor handoffs will keep North Attleboro from reclaiming their position atop the Hock sprint relay podium. After years at the crest they were dethroned last year by Foxboro. Was it because NA balanced the squad between 4X1 and 4X4 to win the meet or was Foxboro that much better? Doesn't matter - moot point. Don't expect it to happen again! How deep is NA? They are six 100M relay sprinters deep. Last year's New England Championship anchor leg is a reserve on this team. The rest of the teams look like they should fall in place as listed. 1 North Attleborough 'A' 49.00 2 Foxborough 'A' 50.50 3 Mansfield 'A' 51.60 4 Sharon 'A' 51.90 5 Franklin 'A' 52.50 6 Canton 'A' 53.00 7 King Philip 'A' 53.60 8 Oliver Ames 'A' 53.90 9 Stoughton 'A' 55.00 I see no reason to alter this scenario. Put it in the books. 1 Canton 'A' 44.80 2 Mansfield 'A' 45.20 3 Oliver Ames 'A' 45.40 4 North Attleborough 'A' 45.50 5 Foxborough 'A' 45.90 6 Stoughton 'A' 46.00 7 Franklin 'A' 46.50 8 Sharon 'A' 46.70 9 King Philip 'A' 47.20 4 X 400M (G-B) Make no doubt about it - Mansfield will win and likely set a meet record. The Franklin-OA battle may not happen. It depends upon the emphasis placed on the 4X800M. Sharon could be the runner-up here. NA can run faster and is likely to place higher than seeded. KP should also get points. 1 Mansfield 'A' 3:58.08 2 Franklin 'A' 4:16.00 3 Oliver Ames 'A' 4:16.60 4 Sharon 'A' 4:18.90 5 North Attleborough 'A' 4:22.30 6 King Philip 'A' 4:26.10 7 Canton 'A' 4:29.00 8 Stoughton 'A' 4:34.00 9 Foxborough 'A' 4:35.00 Although it doesn't look like the meet between NA and MN goes down to the final relay, it would be fun if it did. That would push both teams to a sub-3:30 race. I don't see anyone other than Foxboro challenging those two. But KP has surprised us in this event in the past so don't write off a top-3 finish for the Warriors. 1 Mansfield 'A' 3:30.90 2 North Attleborough 'A' 3:32.70 3 Foxborough 'A' 3:34.30 4 King Philip 'A' 3:36.30 5 Franklin 'A' 3:37.10 6 Oliver Ames 'A' 3:39.30 7 Sharon 'A' 3:39.40 8 Canton 'A' 3:41.60 9 Stoughton 'A' 3:51.00
