Dwight Estey

EDUCATION

Dwight Estey graduated from North Attleboro High School in 1970. In 1974 he received a B.S. in Education from the University of Connecticut. He is a member of MAPHERD and an executive board member of the State Track Coaches Association.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Mr. Estey started teaching in North Attleboro in 1974. Among the schools in which he taught are Richards Avenue, Falls, Amvet Blvd., Roosevelt, Allen Avenue, John Woodcock, the Junior High School and High School. He has been the Director of Physical Education since 1991. Prior to his duties as Physical Education Director he was the Director of Health and system-wide intramural director.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

At North Attleboro Mr. Estey has coached boys and girls indoor and outdoor track, girls cross country and girls junior varsity basketball. In 1986 he was honored by the Boston Globe as the Girls' Indoor Track Coach of the Year. During the 2003 spring track season he reached the 200 victory plateau, finishing the season with a career record of 206-17-1. His boys' spring track teams hold the longest winning streak of any North Attleboro sport with 59 consecutive victories. In 2005, Estey was inducted into the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Hall of Fame. Upon his retirement from coaching track after the 2007 spring season, the North Attleboro track was renamed the Dwight E. Estey Track.

SPORTS BACKGROUND

While at North Attleboro Mr. Estey was a member of the basketball team and captain of the spring track team. He was the 1970 Class D high jump champion.. At the University of Connecticut he competed in track and field where he received All-New England honors in the high jump.

FAMILY

Mr. Estey is married to Arlene Estey, a physical education teacher at the Amvet Blvd. School. They have two children, Ethan and Emily, who are graduates of North Attleboro High School. Ethan is also a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and holds an advanced degree in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He is currently a PHD candidate at the University of Connecticut and is involved in commercial aquaculture. Emily is a graduate of Yale University and Georgetown University School of Law. She is currently a corporate lawyer for the Boston firm of Hale and Dorr.

HOBBIES

Mr. Estey spends his free time mountain-biking, running, writing, wood-working and promoting running through his web-site northrunning.com.
