I heard from Brian Clay ('94)
who ran the Boston Marathon for the first time. He can truly say that he has done
something I haven't. Sister Meghan ('90) has run faster and will be getting married
sooner - this year!
It is the week leading up to the State Relays - one of our favorite meets. NA
looks to field some of its best ever teams in a number of events. More on that
next week.
First we have to contend with Canton on Wednesday. Expect another host of PR's
as the training has just started to show results.
northrunning will be taking a two-day sabbatical so don't expect any updates until
Sunday night.
Last week's message follows.
Motivation, team morale, coaching expectations, quality of officiating, league
responsibilities, sportsmanship, team goals vs. individual goals, etal.
I have too many subjects to comment upon and too little time. So I'm not promising
to cover them all - I know I couldn't follow through with all my ideas from last
month - but I hope that vacation week will enable me to cover some.
I need help on college acceptances. TyLynn Graham will be running for URI (despite
the fact that my April 1st article really threw some people for a loop). And Jen
Mac is taking her hurdle skills to Marist. She'll be our first to run there. Ty
and Jen mark the first time that two NA thinclads have opted for athletic scholarships
in the same year.
So no matter what Hock team you run for, let me know where you are headed and
I'll start the list.
Sunday I'll be attending a marathon brunch at Kate and Laura O'Neill's house in
Milton. After practice on Monday I'll be at the marathon (most likely at BC).
Then it's a full week of track with Sharon on Tuesday and Foxboro on Thursday.
The weather should be good so I hope to report some eye- popping results.
Yours in track
Coach Estey
