PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT RULES

2004 - 2005

REQUIREMENTS

a. Freshmen and sophomores are required to take and pass one semester per year (5 days per week)
b. Juniors and seniors are required to take and pass one semester per year (two days per week)
c. Any failed semesters must be taken over and passed to meet the graduation requirements

ATTENDANCE

a. Attendance in class is mandatory. Students under temporary medical excuse must still attend class and are responsible for material covered.
b. Students late for class will receive a detention for tardiness.
c. Students must be present and participating a minimum of 80% of the scheduled classes in order to receive a passing grade.

EXCUSES

a. Students present but unable to participate must have a written excuse from home, the school nurse or a doctor.
b. Parent or nurse excuses will be accepted up to one week. After that time a doctor’s note will be necessary.

MAKE UPS

a. Make ups are scheduled with the teacher of the unit in which your attendance is deficient
b. Make ups must be done in a timely manner. Students may not make up work from past units or quarters.

c. Make ups can be scheduled during Structured Learning Periods. A student must get a make up pass from the "Teacher of Record" prior to class.

DRESS

a. Students must have a complete change of clothes.
b. Students must have suitable athletic shoes. Boots, shoes or hiking boots are not acceptable.
c. Students must have clothes suitable for cool weather.
d. Students may not wear clothes of a distracting or inappropriate nature.
(no tank tops, half shirts or shirts with questionable sayings)
e. Clothes are to be worn in the manner intended
(shoes are to be tied properly, shorts worn on the hips and not rolled down)

LOCKERS

a. Students must use the lockers assigned to them.
b. Students provide their own locks.
c. All belongings must be kept in a locker. Nothing is to be left on or under benches.
d. No food or drink is allowed in the locker room or gym.

LOCKER ROOM

a. Students must be in the locker room by the second bell
b. Students have seven minutes to get dressed and into the gym
c. Once in the gym, students are not allowed back into the locker room until the bell rings
d. Students are given ten minutes at the end of class to shower and change
e. Students remain in the locker room until the bell rings
f. Late passes will only be issued if a student was kept late on the field

ACTIVITIES

a. There is a combination of required and elective activities
b. Once you have elected and participated in an activity you may not change

GRADING

a. Physical education is a semester course
b. Students receive a numerical grade for each unit
c. There will be rubrics used in grading common assessment units
d. There will be a notebook worth 20% of the final grade

REASONS FOR FAILURE

a. Failure to participate in 80% of classes
b. Insufficient effort, missing assignments and/or failing test grades
c. Consistent failure to demonstrate willingness to improve
d. Consistent removal from class for disruption or dangerous play

SAFETY

a. Students are not to chew gum in the gym or during class.
b. All jewelry must be removed before class.
c. Students are to be in control at all times. They must consider the safety of their classmates and themselves at all times.
d. Students are not to use equipment unless instructed to do so. They must not take equipment out of the closet without permission.

FIRE DRILLS

a. Students are to remain with their teacher during a fire drill. (attendance is taken)

b. During a fire drill indoor phys. ed. classes report to the tennis court.

c. Outdoor phys. ed. classes remain where they are unless instructed otherwise by the teacher.

 

PROFANITY

a. All profanity, disrespectful or intimidating language will be dealt with according to the rules listed in the student handbook

EXPECTATIONS

a. To dress for class everyday.
b. To understand and follow the rules
c. To give an honest effort everyday
d. To meet the school expectations as they relate to physical education
